What does it mean to sow and what does it mean to reap?
The Bible, written during the agriculture era employs farm related parables to speak to the people of the time ex. the harvest is plenty but the laborers are few. Ex. disconnection to the vine does not bear fruit etc. ultimately to sow is to plant – it is to invest – it is to focus your attention. So God is telling us where you focus your attention you will receive return on that investment. If you sow the word into your child he/she may astray but will eventually return bearing the fruits sown Proverbs 21:19
It is for this reason Matthew 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. As a man thinks, he does, you will always reproduce what’s in your heart. If you give, generosity is in your heart, If you hate, malice is in your heart.
You reap what you sow
you reproduce what you sow. We are what we eat, what goes in always comes out. If you drink water, fruits and veggies – clear skin and good health will come out. If you consume excess sugar and drugs, bad skin health problems will consequent. If you study God’s law and his way, that comes out
Hosea who willingly married a harlot woman – consistently reaped her rebellious nature. Hosea, minor prophet had the role of preparing Israel judgment so they would repent or reap the whirlwind. Witnessing to King Jeroboam II Hosea cries out that the whirlwind equals instability, chaos, destruction. King Jeroboam II promotes idolatry, sexual immortality and murder.
The whirlwind is the opposite of peace – to be still and settled in God. The harvest cannot grow in the presence of whirled wind 💨 because the harvest/the blessings will always be uprooted. There is a way that seems right to man and leads to death. The gains of sin produce no restful sleep because they are being uprooted. Instead God tells us to sow the word of God.
We study the word to:
1. Find the way
The word have I hidden in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11
2. To Repent
How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to your word. Psalm 119:9
3. To Stay
Before I was afflicted I went astray but now have I kept your word. -Psalm 119
